Consumer's Guide to Scenic Snake River Float Trips

This information is intended to help ensure our Jackson Hole and Grand Teton National Park visitors have the information necessary to make an informed decision on where and with whom to float in this spectacular valley.

The Snake River runs North and South through Jackson Hole And Grand Teton National Park covering approximately 50 miles of varied scenery and environments.

The northern portion of the Snake River runs through a pristine area which is protected within the boundaries of Grand Teton National Park.  The river meanders through a natural landscape which has not been altered by human hand.  Here, wildlife, waterfowl and other bird life abound in a natural environment.  Scenic float trips began on this stretch of the river in 1957.

The southern portion of the river is outside the boundaries of the park.  This residential area is locally known as "South Park". The river through "South Park" is unregulated and runs along private properties where it is frequently bordered by large homes.  The river in this section is controlled by dikes and levees on both sides and provides easy access for vehicles, bicycles and other sporting traffic.  The "South Park" scenic trips pass by one of the largest gravel pits in Jackson Hole and end just after floating past the town of Jackson's sewage treatment facilities.

Consider This:

  • Will you be floating 100% within Grand Teton National Park?

  • Are there unobstructed , close up views of all the major Grand Teton peaks for the entire length of your trip?

  • Will you have skilled and knowledgeable river guides that are registered with the National Park Service?

  • Will you experience a completely natural river environment?

  • Will you have unmatched opportunities to view the Grand Tetons, wildlife, waterfowl, and an abundance of other bird life?

  • Is it an un-crowded section of the river where the number of boats on the water is restricted by permits with the National Park Service to ensure the quality of the river experience?

  • Will you float in river rafts built specifically for scenic trips with your comfort and safety in mind?

BE SURE TO DETERMINE WHERE YOUR "SCENIC" FLOAT TRIP IS LOCATED. DON'T BE "TAKEN FOR A RIDE"!
